The Journey Needs…
Over the last few weeks, I have had several people ask what items we could use that would help out The Journey. Some are asking about spiritual needs, others are asking about technical equipment and others are just trying to see if there is anything else. Well, let me be up front that we have a God given vision to see The Journey come to Oak City. We have no budget yet or finances in place for the new mission; however, we serve a God that has allowed us an opportunity. I know that God is leading and will provide the needs of the new outreach ministry as He sees fit through His people.
Here is a list, with the first couple of things being the priority:
Spiritual Needs:
We need dedicated prayer partners that will commit to praying daily for this ministry. Without the dedicated prayer, we would not be able to succeed at what we are attempting for God here. When God’s people are praying, the Lord is working. Please pray for all of us to be open to the direct leading of the Holy Spirit and that we would be completely faithful to that leading.
Please be in prayer for the unchurched community as we reach out to them in the various ways that God has directed us to move in. Pray for receptive hearts of the people to see the reality of the need of a Savior. Beyond seeing a need, pray that they would respond to the prompting of the Holy Spirit to accept Him.
Pray that as we that we would be effective in our disciple making process in order to effectively see that new believers are truly growing in the Lord. This is Journey and on this Journey, there shall be none left behind to fend for themselves. We’ll be on a journey together.
Pray for the endurance of The Journey team as we work in the new area of ministry throughout our local communities. The days will be long for many of us and we definitely need prayer. But know this… The seeds will be planted and one day the harvest will come home.
Pray that we would be sensitive to the real needs of our community and that we can help meet those needs in a Christ-like fashio that would be pleasing to Him.
People Needs:
We will have many opportunities for people to be involved from the ground up with The Journey.
We are praying that God will lead some people to The Journey that can assist in leading worship. Who knows… Maybe God has an army of worship leaders on the way to Oak City to volunteer as I type this out. The service style will be completely “contemporary and open to change in style and will be located in our current sanctuary on Sunday afternoons at 4pm. We have full media capabilities for the worship service to include audio and video that will also assist us in enhancing the worship of the service.
We need many volunteers that can assist with different events we’ll be having as time goes along. Immediately, we need volunteers for the outdoor movie events, street fairs and back to school bash in August.
We are looking for local bands that might be willing to come from time to time to play. The most pressing event is our Back to School bash on the last Sunday of August. (30th) We hope to find a band or two that come to Oak City and play for the bash. This will be an outdoor event, so turn it up… If you know someone or a group that might be willing to come and play for any events, have them contact us.
We are looking for volunteers to assist with the Audio/Video ministry of The Journey services. From projection to the mixer, we can always use the help.
As we have opportunities for special guest speakers or groups, I ask that you would pray that God will lead the guests as they are here to share the Lord.
Technical And Other Needs:
We are praying for a projector and “portable” audio equipment that will allow for us to have quality outdoor events. We plan to have several outdoor movie nights on a regular basis throughout the summer. This is a ground up operation. At a minimum, we are hoping to secure at least a 2000 Lumens projector with decent contrast, a couple of decent speakers, amplifier and a small mixer to accommodate bands at our outdoor concerts and the video for the outdoor movies. The projector will also be used for other various functions in different areas of the building as needed.
We are currently designing a portable movie screen to be used outdoors. Pray that the design goes smooth and the end product will work well for the needs and environment. We are currently designing the screen to utilize either a “bright white” tarp that we can stretch taught with bungies or white “blackout” cloth, which is used for curtain backing. With either material, the reflective nature would work well in the outdoor environment and allow for simple setup and takedown.
We are still working on a logo and design. The overall logo concept is in progress. If you know someone who might be able to take it from concept to final design, let us know.
As you can see, God has opened a door for us here in Oak City. This is a ministry that has a huge potential to reach a multitude down here in rural Eastern Carolina. I feel that God is preparing to open a floodgate over here and we are going to be here with the nets ready to cast over to the other side of the boat and truly experience God filling the nets.
