Projector Recommendations and Buying Discussion
Have just finished my basement – wife would not let me make a dedicated HT room, but she is agreeable to having a projector and a screen in the large open rec-room space. No windows in this room so it is fairly light controlled – have pot-lights on a dimmer for room lighting. Am pretty flexible for mounting, as I am planning to ceiling mount it….
Can sit anywhere from 10-15 feet away from the wall that will have the screen – would like to get 2 rows into that space if possible. Will probably watch more HD sports than actual movies, and have *C HD so channels come through in 1080i and 720p.
Projectors considered
Optoma 640 from the big C – DLP so shouldn’t see SDE like an LCD projector, but run the risk of seeing rainbows (not sure if I see them yet), 720p HD, including an Optoma manual pull down screen.
Epson Powerlite HC 720 – LCD so more flexible in mounting in case I run into issues, 720p HD, and seems to get good reviews for sports viewing. There is a $100 rebate, a free lamp and and free mount.
Epson Powerlite HC 1080 – LCD and 1080p, so should let me view from a closer distance without SDE. There is a $300 rebate, a free lamp and free mount.
SANYO PLV-Z2000 – LCD and 1080p, so should let me view from a closer distance without SDE. Seems to be a great $500 rebate to bring this price down
So given that I will be mainly watching sports with it, is paying extra for the 1080p projectors worth it?
