Outdoor projectors can be a little tricky sometimes. Lighting of the environment will effect the quality of the projection. Watching a movie on a Open Air Cinema is great, but if you having lighting issues or want to watch a movie outside during the eveing, then you might want to consider HD. An HD upgrade with the image brighter and therefore making it easier to see when the lighting conditions are not perfect. HD will also get you a better picture overal than a normal projector. Make sure that your DVD system is HD as well. No point of having an HD projector when your system can’t handle HD.

A lot of people may have heard of WIRED magazine. They recently talked about Open Air Cinema and took a look at the projectors used for outdoor movies. They took a look at the 720p Projector on a Blu-ray player. Here is what they said:

“Blu-ray shines even at lower resolutions, though, because the movies looked razor-sharp. They sounded even better; Behringer’s boom-boxes were loud enough to fill an open field, let alone a backyard. The whole experience was simply exquisite”

If you have a blu-ray player, then the 720p will be just fine for good quality picture for your projector screening. If you don’t have a blu-ray player, then you will need to upgrade to a 1080p projector for Optoma!

I have complied a list of 4 popular Optoma outdoor projectors. These projectors have been suggested and highly recommended by Open Air Cinema, who are the best when it comes to outdoor movie equipment. The right projector for you depends on the money you are willing to spend, and the type of quality you want.

Optoma TX 536 – This is the number one choice for people looking for a high performance projector at a affordable price. The TX 536 has a 3000:1 contrast ratio, 2800 ANSI Lumens, a rapid on and off so that there is no wait, small and only weights 5 lbs, and has an awesome password and lock on the control panel.

Optoma TX 612 – This one is a step up from the 536. The 612 has 3500 ANSI Lumens, a throw distance of 39 feet, compatible with HDTV, 1600 x 1200 pixels, and 4000 hours of light bulb life.
